In October 1924, a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., forming a club “to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members.” The group took the name
“Toastmasters.” A group of businessmen and politician in St. Paul got together to create the 167th club, named First St. Paul Toastmasters, in 1940. See more in Our History page.
“I thoroughly enjoy Toastmaster’s and am so glad I found First St. Paul. It is teaching me a lot about public speaking and leadership, is convenient and fun.” - Diane Markel, First St. Paul Toastmasters member

At First St. Paul Toastmasters, members learn by speaking and working with others in a supportive environment. Our club is made up of approximately 20 people who meet once a week for about an hour and a half (except in the summer when we meet once every two weeks). Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation. You'll learn and practice in a friendly, comfortable environment with people who are there for the same reason you are—to become better communicators.

Come on in! We meet at
Coldwell Banker Burnet,
4525 White Bear Parkway, White Bear Lake, MN 55110 - Off of Highways 35E and 96. They have graciously allowed us to utilize the basement training room which provides a great space to meet (just like our founders).
Our club meets on
Monday nights at 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. During June, July and August we meet every other week. Please see our
Club Calendar for exact meeting times and events. Some nights are designated party nights, however every meeting contains humor and camaraderie.
